Legal status and mandate
ANPPCAN Zambia is a national membership Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) registered with registrar of societies in Zambia to address potential cases of child rights violation as well as providing remedial services to victims of child rights violation using different models. Owing to the complexity of the problem of focus, the organization’s intervention embraces a goal based approach.

Background information

The African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) is a Pan African organization working in more than 21 member countries with its Head Office in Nairobi, Kenya. ANPPCAN regional network has an observer seat at Africa Union (AU) that seeks to Advise and contribute to upholding, promotion and protection of the rights of children by member countries that have signed and ratified the African Charter on Rights and Welfare of a Child (ACRWC, 2002). ANPPCAN Zambia also focuses on creation of awareness and empowering government relevant departments and child focused organizations to engage in child rights promotion, as provided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC, 1989) which Zambia ratified in 1991 and other local and international conventions safeguarding the rights and welfare of children. Thus, ANPPCAN Zambia is one of the ANPPCAN member organizations, which has been operating in Zambia since 2003 after being registered with registrar of societies (under the societies rules, section 7(1) of societies Act Cap 119) with registration number ORS/102/35/2870. It is a membership organization, which has so far more than 230 paid up members.
